Fair to Close Early

Washington County Fair Announces the Fair will be Closed on Sunday

GREENWICH — The meeting room at the Washington County Fair was full Friday morning, while the board of directors approved a plan to close the fair a day early due to the predicted path of Hurricane Irene.

Fair president, R. Harry Booth said, “Our number one priority is safety; safety of our fairgoers, safety of our participants and safety of our livestock.”  “This is the first time I remember the fair closing early; we’ve been rained out before, but never made the decision in advance.”

“We will continue to monitor the storm’s path and adjust the plan accordingly” said Mark St. Jacques, fair manager.   “The forecast for Friday and Saturday are for perfect fair weather and we hope folks will come join us on these days.”

The fair will run normal hours of operation on Saturday with gates opening at 9:00 AM and the buildings closing at 10:00 PM.  Saturday has a full schedule of activities.  The NYTPA Sanctioned Tractor Pull will take place on the Motor Sports Arena at 1 and 7:00 PM.  Horse Gymkhana, Draft Animal Versatility, various judging events will run throughout the day and later in the day the Dry Town Drifters will perform in the Entertainment Tent.   The carnival rides will run all day along with a full schedule of family entertainment.
